A blank journal page or computer screen can be intimidating. But this thought did not enter my head after my daughter and father-in-law died the same weekend. Journaling was the only way I could cope. It helped me cope and continued to help me when my brother died eight weeks later and when my former son-in-law died.
Keeping a personal writing journal has a powerful way of healing the soul. When writing about what troubles you and all your immediate thoughts on the subject it creates space for solutions to enter your life. When you write down things that excite you it creates an opportunity to reflect back to that feeling and experience with happiness and bliss. Your greatest teacher will become your personal writing journal as you write down your inner thoughts, special events, future plans, successes, difficult challenges, dark thoughts, bright thoughts, major frustrations and life’s loves in your journal. You will discover more and more about who you are in the world and why your life is the way that it is.
Writing journals are documented records of various incidents experienced by a person, his or her thoughts and observations regarding the same or otherwise, and private expressions of emotion. The very practice of journaling helps in crystallization of an individual’s thoughts and ideas, concerns and conflicts. It also helps the writer to identify the subconscious thoughts which might otherwise fade away unnoticed.
The beauty of journaling is that there are very few, if any, rules. In fact, the fun of journal writing is the unstructured writing environment that comes inherently with journaling. Experienced writers and novices alike write down their daily experiences, thoughts and realizations in a journal, and can find the experience of keeping a journal truly rewarding.
Self-esteem refers to your feelings about yourself in different domains. It includes how worthy and likeable you think you are and to what degree do you accept and embrace your strengths and weaknesses? It is commonly thought that low self-esteem is linked to negative outcomes, but high self-esteem can also have a negative impact if it is dependent on accomplishments or transient factors, such as possessions or looks. Your neighbour may have high self-esteem because she has a new fancy car, but her self-esteem could crumble when she loses her possessions. Individuals who have high self-esteem because they have attained some socially desirable standard are often preoccupied with comparing themselves to others.
