The Benefits of a Weight Journal

journalingHow many of you have thought about losing weight at one time or another? Let’s face it, losing weight is something most of us hope to do at some point in our lives. For some of us, it is a constant battle.

A good weight loss journal can really make the difference though, in that it allows you to track your weight loss and increases the likelihood that you’ll keep that weight off. Read on and learn some of the many benefits that a weight loss journal can do for anyone who is looking to shed a few pounds.

Many of you have probably read many weight loss plans and diets that implement the use of a weight loss journal. However, how many of you have actually taken the time to create and use one in your everyday life? Probably not many.

The first thing you want to do is go out and get a journal that you can comfortably keep with you at all times. For some it will be a large binder and for others, a small notebook. Whatever you are comfortable with is what you should use.

This is going to be by your side at all times for the foreseeable future so it’s got to be something you enjoy writing in. You aren’t just going to track what foods you eat but also the various activities, exercise or otherwise, you perform on a daily basis. This will give you a good idea of what is working for you and what isn’t.

With a journal you can physically write down weekly goals that you aspire to achieve, and it will serve as a constant reminder whenever you lack motivation. Whether you want to lose a pound or two a week or simply eat a well-balanced diet, writing your goal down is a great way to put you in the right mindset. Having short- term goals will make it easier for you to achieve your desired ideal weight in the long run.

In your journal, you are going to write down every single thing you put in your mouth day in and day out.

This doesn’t mean you have to count calories, but you’d be surprised at how this can benefit the food choices you make. When you know you have to record everything you eat, you are going to be much less tempted to reach for that snickers bar and opt for a handful of almonds instead.

Perhaps the most important part of your weight loss journal should be your weekly weigh in.

When you write down your weight each week and you see that number start to go down over time, there isn’t a better feeling in the world. You’ll be able to physically see the positive changes you are making in your life, and this will only motivate you further to continue.

Yes, a weight loss journal is going to be tedious at first, and at times, it will be down right annoying. But you will find that as time goes on, you appreciate the effort you put in as you begin to see positive changes in your weight. So what are you waiting for? Start your weight loss journal today!
